What is silure catfish?

The silure catfish, also known as the European catfish or wels catfish, is a freshwater fish that can be found in rivers and lakes throughout Europe. It is the largest catfish species found in Europe, with some individuals growing to over 9 feet (2.75 meters) in length and weighing over 300 pounds (140 kg). They have a long, cylindrical body with a large, flattened head and a wide mouth filled with sharp teeth.

Silure catfish are predatory and primarily feed on fish, but they will also eat crustaceans, small mammals, and birds. They are a prized game fish for many anglers and can be caught using live bait, lures, and even by fly fishing. They are also farmed for food in some parts of Europe.

These fish have a relatively long lifespan, with some individuals living over 30 years. They are also known for their aggressive behavior and have been known to attack humans in rare cases. Despite their size and ferocity, silure catfish are not considered to be a threat to humans and are generally non-aggressive towards people.
